Healing Isn’t Linear — and That’s Okay: A Gentle Invitation to Begin
It all begins with an idea.
Have you ever thought to yourself, "I should be over this by now"? If so, you're not alone. Many of us carry pain from past trauma, grief, or abuse and feel frustrated when the healing doesn't happen all at once. The truth is: healing isn't a straight line. It comes in waves, and sometimes it pauses, circles back, or unfolds in unexpected ways. And that's okay.
In my 12 years as a licensed social worker, including time spent walking with families through hospice care, I’ve learned that healing takes as long as it takes. There is no timeline you must meet. Whether you’ve carried pain for months or decades, what matters is that you’re here now, open to the idea that healing is possible.
One of the beautiful truths of our faith is that God is never in a hurry with our hearts. He meets us gently, without judgment, exactly where we are. Scripture reminds us:
"He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle." – Isaiah 42:3
God honors the smallest signs of hope and healing. Every flicker matters to Him.
At Along Side You, therapy is not a place where you’re expected to perform or prove anything. It’s a sacred space to feel seen, supported, and safely guided. I use Brain Working Recursive Therapy (BWRT®), prayer, and the calming presence of my therapy dog, Hershey, to support people on their path to healing.
Hershey has a quiet way of inviting people to breathe, to be present, and to know they’re not alone. Whether it’s your first time in therapy or you’ve tried before, we begin gently, together.
If your soul feels tired or your heart feels heavy, take this as an invitation to begin again. You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to be willing to take that step forward to want to heal. Hershey and I will be here to walk alongside you.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." – Matthew 11:28
